Dr Whiting completed his medical studies at the University of Notre Dame in Freemantle, Western Australia where he graduated with Honours and a Dean’s Commendation. He then undertook extensive sub-specialty training in New Zealand and the United Kingdom. These studies and training have seen Dr Whiting travel around the word, completing fellowships in Bariatrics (ANZMOSS) and Minimally Invasive Upper GI Surgery.
This has uniquely positioned Dr Whiting as North Queensland’s only sub-specialty trained Upper GI and Bariatric Surgeon where he delivers world-class surgical techniques and procedures to his patients with the aim of providing caring and comprehensive support throughout their entire surgical journey.
Born and bred in Townsville, Dr Scott Whiting once played professional National Rugby League for the North Queensland Cowboys, before embarking on his medical career. Since moving back to his hometown of Townsville, Dr Whiting has committed himself to providing the highest quality health and surgical options for the North Queensland community.
Dr Whiting works at the North Queensland Minimally Invasive Surgery (NQMIS) operating at Townsville Mater Hospital and the Townsville University Hospital where he specialises in Bariatrics, Upper GI, and General Surgery.

Having played with the Centrals ASA Rugby League club throughout his junior football years, Dr Scott has since become a sponsor and supporter of the club. As a former professional Rugby League player with the North Queensland Cowboys, he often finds time to help out with training sessions and mentorship where possible.
