When you’re referred to Dr Scott Whiting for Upper GI, Bariatric or General surgical procedures, you’ll receive the highest quality care.

As an Upper GI & Bariatric surgeon, Dr Whiting specialises in oesophageal and gastric cancers, and the management of Barrett’s oesophagus and anti-reflux procedures. After completing his surgical training in Australia and overseas he is now dedicated to serving to North Queensland community from his base in Townsville.

He is supported by a multidisciplinary team, who work collectively to provide comprehensive care to patients before, during, and after surgery.

1. Consultation, investigation, and diagnosis

Patients are referred to Dr Whiting for weight loss surgical procedures by their GP or hospital physician because you may require assessment by a specialist. That does not always mean you’ll be having surgery but does suggest your situation is a little more complex and requires a thorough exploration of the probable cause.

2. Surgical intervention and/or treatment

Sometimes after a thorough assessment, surgical intervention or treatment may be needed to get you on the path to good health. This can often involve a non-invasive endoscopic procedure or other types of procedures that may require an overnight hospital stay.

3. Post operative care and follow-up

After the decision is made to operate and the surgical procedure is completed, you’ll likely have a period of post-operative care and recovery. This experience can vary for many and is where Dr Whiting and his team will support you and help you adjust to the changes.
